The Best Way to Learn Vocabulary
What’s new everybody?
When people study, irrespective of the subject, one of the most difficult things can be memorising the information that you have learnt. It could be that you understand the technicalities of the information, but for some reason it just doesn’t stay in your mind.
In today’s post, we are going to look at different ways which could help make memorising information- in our case, English vocabulary, a whole lot easier.
Do pictures help you more than words?
If you have more of a photographic memory and learn better from images than repetitive reading, a good idea is to take photos of nouns of which you are learning the vocabulary. In other words- if you are learning kitchen utensil vocabulary, take a photo of the items or get them from the internet and label them with the corresponding word and study that way.
By doing this your brain associates the noun with its corresponding name in English. This can be reviewed and studied as many times as you need.
Do you memorise by writing?
There are a lot of people who cannot read something once and memorise it. These people memorise the information by writing it down, maybe not just once, but several times until the information is cemented in their mind.
Working alongside this idea- it is a good idea to get a friend or family member to test you on the vocabulary after you have written it down enough times. This allows you to practise enough but also take on the challenge of a mock test situation.
Why are mock tests a good way of testing your memory?
When you get friends or family members to test you on what you have been studying and trying very hard to memorise, you see the cracks in your studies. That is to say that these tests allow you to see what your strengths and weaknesses are so that you can focus more on the weaknesses than the strengths.
What is the key?
There is no “correct” way to memorise vocabulary as people learn in their own different ways, however paying attention to the aforementioned points could certainly help you in your studies.
